Born and raised on a farm in Namibia, Louise le Roux is a Reykjavík-based mixed-media artist. With an academic background in biotechnology and a career as a scientist, she balances analytical precision with an intuitive and expressive approach to art. She is also a qualified yoga teacher, which further informs her sense of flow and mindfulness in her creative process.
Initially trained at Myndlistarskóli Kópavogs, she has since expanded her artistic practice through various courses, both in person and online. Working primarily on paper, she creates vibrant, layered compositions using monoprint collage, paint, ink, and mixed-media techniques. Her recent works explore portraiture set against abstract, textural backgrounds.
Deeply inspired by intricate patterns everywhere—her art captures organic forms with a sense of spontaneity and movement. Always eager to experiment, she sees creativity as a lifelong journey, continuously evolving through exploration and play.
Since 2009, Louise has participated in numerous group exhibitions with Litka and Gróska Art Collectives. She also held five solo exhibitions since 2017 and has been selected for juried exhibitions with the Icelandic Watercolour Society.
I create art as an exploration of color, texture, and the organic flow of creativity. My work is intuitive and expressive, often guided by the materials themselves. I am drawn to patterns everywhere — the delicate veins of a leaf, the intricate patterns on a feather, the spontaneous textures created through monoprinting.
Using a mixed-media approach, I combine monoprint collage, paint, ink, and unconventional tools to build layered, vibrant compositions. Recently, I have been exploring portraiture on abstract backgrounds that echo my love for texture and spontaneity.
Art, for me, is an ongoing journey of discovery. I am constantly learning, experimenting, and finding new ways to push my creativity forward.
